Opera Australia's La Traviata
Opera
22 January - 29 March 2010
Information
Love takes Violetta by surprise. Alfredo Germont is more than just another admirer. However, when Alfredo's father questions her virtue Violetta sacrifices her happiness to save Alfredo's reputation. Alone and disillusioned by her life of pleasure, she succumbs to tuberculosis, but not before singing a heart-breaking final act with Alfredo.
Sydney audiences have another chance to see Russian diva Elvira Fatykhova in the role of Violetta in Verdi's La traviata this summer. She plays opposite exciting Australian tenor Aldo Di Toro as Alfredo Germont and the brilliant Jonathan Summers takes the pivotal role of Alfredo's father. French conductor Philippe Auguin conducts this famous production originally created by Elijah Moshinsky. La traviata opens on January 22.
