Opera Australia's A Midsummer Night's Dream

Opera

18 February - 24 March 2010

Information

Baz Luhrmann's beguiling vision of Benjamin Britten's A Midsummer Night's Dream is back. Alexander Briger conducts an ensemble of Hindu-inspired fairies, British colonials and the 'It ain't half hot, mum' entertainment troupe, all lost in an enchanted forest. The production features Rachelle Durkin and Tobias Cole as Tytania and Oberon, with Conal Coad as Bottom and Tyler Coppin as Puck. A Midsummer Night's Dream opens on February 18.
The story begins with a feud between fairies. Tytania is besotted with a young Indian Prince and King Oberon plans his humiliating revenge, conjuring a web of enchantment with the help of impish Puck. The meddling plays out as a merry band of mortals wander into the fairies' domain and Oberon discovers more enchantment than he imagined.
