BURNT BY THE SUN
by Peter Flannery
After the screenplay by Nikita Mikhalkov and Rustam Ibragimbekov
The Australian premiere of an acclaimed new play
Based on the 1994 OSCAR® winner for ‘Best Foreign Language Film’, this political thriller is both a finely-observed human comedy and a wider examination of a society on the cusp of monumental change.
In 1936, decorated war hero General Kotov, his young wife Maroussia and their extended family are enjoying a holiday in the country. Then Maroussia’s mysterious former lover appears and as the sinister forces of Stalinist Russia encroach, their world becomes engulfed in an atmosphere of sexual jealousy, revenge and political betrayal.
