Sydney’s Annual Pink Ribbon Ride
celebrates its 10th year in 2010
This October marks the 10th Annual Pink Ribbon Ride with female motorcyclists from all over Australia coming together in Sydney to raise funds for The Westmead Breast Cancer Institute.
Dressed in as much pink as they can find, over 1,000 riders will take to the streets on their motorcycles giving hope to those affected by breast cancer, personally and their families, as they raise funds towards the research into prevention and cure of the disease.
Starting in 2001 with just 300 participants, the Annual Pink Ribbon Ride has grown significantly over the past 10 years with last year seeing over 800 riders take part. This year’s organisers, Girls Ride Out Inc, aim to hit the 1,000 participants mark and are encouraging all those interested to come forward and enjoy the ride that will not disappoint.
Founder of Girls Ride Out Inc, Selena Thurbon, says it’s a visually spectacular event seeing all these women dressed in pink riding their motorcycles through the streets but it’s the deeper meaning that resonates with her most.
“The men and women who take part fundraise in the lead up to the event and then on the day represent the worthy cause with true passion, presenting themselves in floods of pink. Each year I am truly inspired.”
It is expected that this year’s event will be the biggest to date with major sponsors Harley-Davidson Australian on board to help Girls Ride Out Inc rise to the challenge.
Harley-Davidson Australia Promotions Executive, Isabel Perez, says it is their aim to encourage as many women as possible to step up and show their support also by taking part in this ride.
“Harley-Davidson is no stranger to the cause and is very aware of the barriers that women with breast cancer face. We are proud to be a major sponsor of the Sydney ride.”
The ride with start from Club Marconi in Bossley Park on Sunday October 24, 2010.
