Background
Nestled within the heart of suburban Killara, Swain Gardens was the passion of Arthur (Mick) Newling Swain, one of Sydney's leading booksellers who created the 3.4 hectares of exotic gardens behind his residence.
Upon his death in 1973, Mr Swain bequeathed the gardens to the National Trust. In 1982 the gardens were given to Ku-ring-gai Council which restored them in partnership with dedicated volunteers.
Swain Gardens Open Day is organised by the Friends of Swain Gardens.
