26 January

Information

Celebrate everything that makes Australia great with family, friends, food and free entertainment at Ku-ring-gai Council’s Australia Day concert at Bicentennial Park on Wednesday January 26 from 5 - 9pm, featuring Australian Idol finalist Mark Da Costa and his band, the Black List.

“The annual Australia Day concert is always a fantastic night out with a great community atmosphere, reminding everyone of how lucky we are to live in this country,” said Mayor Ian Cross.

“This year, dance and sing along under the summer night sky to Chrissy’s Island Family, Diramu Dancers, Tuckitinya Bush Band and Mark Da Costa and the Black List while enjoying ice cream, hot dogs, Asian food, milkshakes and other delicious snacks before an explosive fireworks finale at 8.50pm.”

Bring the kids along for temporary tattoos, face painting, rides, games, show bags and more. Indulge in tasty food from the wide array of stallholders or bring your own hamper and picnic under the stars. (No glass permitted at the event).

Cr Cross and Australia Day Special Guest Ambassador Jonathon Daddia of Masterchef fame will also present the Ku-ring-gai Citizen of the Year Awards on the night.

Limited street parking is available in the streets surrounding Bicentennial Park, with disabled parking available within the park grounds. Try leaving the car at home and taking the free shuttle bus from Gordon Station.

Citizenship ceremony

The Australia Day celebrations kick off early in the morning with a public citizenship ceremony including an address from Australia Day Ambassador Don Burke and flag raising at Wahroonga Park from 8.30am. Sixty-five new citizens from fifteen countries of birth will become citizens at the ceremony.

The Rotary Club of Wahroonga will perform an oral history of Australia Day along with poetry readings and three cheers for Australia.

Refreshments will be available from 7.45am, while talented five-piece Aussie bush band Skewiff will perform before and after the ceremony.
