Hold onto your hats........Australia’s best circus is on its way! Step right up to an amazing long weekend full of incredible acrobatics, mad-cap antics, heart-stopping circus stunts, eye-popping aerial feats, side-splitting comedy capers, jaw-dropping jugglers, spectacular sword swallowers and more!
Sydney Harbour Foreshore Authority presents HOOPLA – Australia’s biggest annual circus and street theatre festival - running all Easter long weekend at Darling Harbour.
You can play all day and night at Hoopla with daytime performances from 12pm–5pm everyday of the long weekend and after-dark shows from 6pm–10pm (see darlingharbour.com for details).
Everyone can delight in this long weekend of exciting entertainment featuring phenomenal circus and street theatre performances, an International Busker’s Pitch, a Kid’s Circus Playground, and fringe-flavoured Hoopla Nights shows in the Big Top circus tent.
2012 will feature three sensational international artists alongside the best Australia has to offer.
The Chipolatas present ‘Gentlemen of the road’ (UK)
The Chipolatas will wow audiences with their unique and high-energy performance presenting unparalleled physical feats, high-octane circus skills with live squeezebox and break beats, straight from sell-out seasons in the UK and Europe.
Leandre and La Tal – present Demodes (Spain)
A tragi-comedy about three lost clowns, cast out by a changing world, told in classic clown language – a truly mesmerising performance, by one of the world’s most renowned clowns Leandre Ribera, winner of the National Circus Awards of Catalonia 2010.
Beck Hoops (Canada)
Becky Hoops who will have her audience in stiches with her absurd characters and her many hula hoops.
The Little Red Trapeze Company – Ready for Takeoff
Soaring high above the ground, these daring acrobats will fly, flip and float through the air with incredible precision and timing. Beautiful acrobatic balancing, hilarious slapstick comedy and truly heart-stopping stunts combine to make a feast for the mind, body and soul that is simply unforgettable.
The League of Sideshow Superstars
More of a superhuman event than a show…the League of Sideshow Superstars will have you jumping in your seat and screaming for more! The four sideshow superstars combine high skill circus routines with slick stunts to create the funniest and friendliest show for the whole family to enjoy.
Three Men in a Tub
Living on a crazy mobile contraption, Three Men in a Tub will lead you on a tragi-comedy ride of epic proportions. Keep your eyes out for the Butcher, The Baker and The Candlestick Maker as they tear around Darling Harbour creating chaos and hilarity.
Make your way to the Tiny Top for an entertaining mix of short, sharp sideshow acts from around the globe in a vibrant, popcorn-scented atmosphere. Be amazed as the Tiny Top artistes perform fun stunts, feats of magic and dazzling displays of daring. Laugh in amusement!
