The Songwriting Prize returns for Year 8

The Songwriting Prize, Australia's first original mental health songwriting competition in support of music industry mental health, returns for Year 8.

Australia’s first mental health songwriting competition is open for entries across Australia; The Songwriting Prize. Now in its 8th Year, the competition continues to cultivate a supportive community for songwriters to share their stories on mental health.

Listen Up Music, an award-winning mental health and music charity, will build on Semi Final events in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane last year by bringing back those events and expanding to three new events, in the Gold Coast, Newcastle and Wagga Wagga, throughout August to October.

Songwriters are asked to submit original works that adhere to the competition’s theme each year, with this year’s theme being “Belonging”.

The competition will culminate in a Grand Final, being held in Sydney on November 24th, where the top ten entries, from the regional Semi Finals, will be showcased before a live audience.

Ali Taylor, CEO of Listen Up Music, said: “After the success of The Songwriting Prize over the past 7 years we wanted to expand our events this year to include areas where large numbers of songwriters were entering from”.
Listen Up Music has been in operation in Australia for 8 years, delivering their pick:Up Mental Health education program, The Songwriting Prize; Australia’s only mental health songwriting competition, and Torch Fest; mental health music festival. The registered charity has also partnered with Artist Guitars, Audio Technica, JMC Academy, Studios 301, The Wyatt Group, Woolworths Group, among others, over the past 3 years.
Ali continues: “We can’t wait to hear the talent and welcome more songwriters than ever to join our community. A community that is focused on developing and maintaining positive mental health”

Entries can be submitted through the Listen Up Music website between 3rd April - 16th June.
