The NPWS, in conjunction with Captain Cook Cruises, operates a daily Shark Island ferry service.
Shark Island has great views and in a spectacular setting in Sydney Harbour National Park, Shark Island is a perfect destination for a picnic with large grassy areas, shady trees, a small beach and picnic shelters available. Enjoy a relaxing ferry trip and spend a few hours or the whole day on the island.
Shark Island, at 1.25 hectares, is located at the mouth of Rose Bay on Port Jackson (Sydney Harbour). Over the last 120 years up until 1975, Shark Island was used as an animal quarantine area, public recreation reserve and naval storage depot. The island presents a danger for shipping due to the shallow waters surrounding it.
