Orienteering CRAZE

Information

If you can read a map or solve problems on the run, then it's time to join the latest orienteering craze at Sydney Olympic Park. All you need is your smartphone to enjoy the NEW, FREE and permanent activity at beautiful Bicentennial Park.

Pokémon Go meets orienteering at its best; the collection of courses – which can be done with a printed map or by smartphone app – is the culmination of 12 months of collaboration between Orienteering NSW and Sydney Olympic Park Authority. Funding for the project was provided by the Australian Sports Commission.

Available daily at any time, participants have the choice of ten courses, all starting from WatervieW Café at Bicentennial Park. Two of the courses are wheelchair-friendly.

The courses range from 1km to 5.3km, offering beginners who may be interested in a leisurely walk or a hard course for those experienced Orienteers who are up for a challenge. There is no one-size-fits-all approach at Sydney Olympic Park, the options to enjoy orienteering are broad and yours to decide!

“Orienteers come in all shapes, sizes and ages; and generally have a great respect for and love of the environment and the outdoors. This permanent course at Sydney Olympic Park will help to showcase our sport to a huge urban population,” said Orienteering NSW President, Greg Barbour.

"This is a terrific example of how we can use technology to get people out and about and leading active lifestyles. It’s an exciting addition to the many free activities families can take advantage of every day at Olympic Park," added Sydney Olympic Park Authority Chief Executive Officer, Charles Moore.
