Cosi Fan Tutte - Review

Operantics is a new independent opera company and this was their first production. The company is striving to produce fresh new productions of classic favourites and lesser known gems at an affordable price.

Cosi Van Tutte was a great choice for their first. There are few characters, it is a comedy and it translates well into modern day.

It was a great performance by the whole company - Dave Smith, Tristan Entwistle, Ian Warwick, Joelene Griffith, Katie Miller-Crispe, Samanta Lestavel. Ian made a great Don Alfonso, very funny and especially some of his facial expressions. I also enjoyed Samanta's character Despina. The piano would have been better a little quieter as it did seem like a contest between the piano and the singers. But this didn't take away from the amazing job Nathaniel Kong did in accompanying the singers. Mozart certainly didn't make it easy for him.  Being the first performance for the new company there were a few first night nerves and hiccups, but nothing that interrupted a great nights entertainment.

This production was very good. Operantics made it very entertaining setting it in Sydney. The set was simple and the scene changes we also made part of the show.  It was sung in Italian with subtitles. It is well worth seeing. It will be touring, dates to be announced. I look forward to their next Opera.
