London (July 9, 2014) - 14 Australian restaurant wine lists have been honoured in The World of Fine Wine's inaugural ‘World's Best Wine Lists 2014'.

The prestigious UK-based wine publication has given 6 Melbourne restaurants and 5 Sydney restaurants the top rating of three stars ahead of other leading cities including Rome (4), Paris (3), Toronto (3), Berlin (2) and Vienna (2). With only 219 three star ratings awarded in total, Australia has the third most three star wine lists of any country behind only the UK and US.

The World of Fine Wine judging panel contained some of the world's leading wine critics and masters of wine including: Andrew Jefford, Gerard Basset MW MS, Elin McCoy and Tom Stevenson. They assessed well over 4,000 wine lists from restaurants from around the world before coming up with the final 200 3 star lists, 400 two star lists and 600 one star lists at a judging session held at Lutyens Restaurant London.

Rockpool Bar & Grill Sydney, AustraliaSydney's three star winning restaurants were Quay, Black By Ezard, Glass Brasserie, Love, Tilly Devine and Rockpool Bar & Grill. Meanwhile further south, Melbourne's three star winners were Vue de monde, Flower Drum, Masani, Rosetta Ristorante, Rockpool Bar & Grill and Woodland House.

On securing the elusive three star wine rating, Vue de monde's Chef-Owner Shannon Bennett commented: "It is a huge honour. Our wine program is a continuously moving, evolving beast that sucks so much knowledge, time and money! So it is great to have been recognised for how much work the team puts in."

Discussing how he and his wine team would celebrate, Bennett joked: "We'll keep working hard and enjoying what we love and that is pleasing customers. In 20 years when we are on the scrap heap and all meeting regularly at the pub, maybe we'll pull out the award and toast to great days with a few whiskeys."

Australia's final three exemplary wine lists can be found at the Royal Mail Hotel, Dunkeld, Rockpool Bar & Grill Perth and The Louise & Appellation in the Barossa Valley, north of Adelaide.

Other restaurateurs honored with 3 stars for their wine lists included Gordon Ramsay for his eponymous London restaurant. On receiving the award, the celebrity chef said: "It's just fantastic news that the wine list at Restaurant Gordon Ramsay has been recognised in this way. The entire team there work tirelessly to deliver the ultimate experience in wine, food and service for all to enjoy. I'm very proud of all of them."

According to the World of Fine Wine Editor Neil Beckett, the awards mark an important day for the wine industry: "Our awards have been received extremely well by all the restaurants and restaurateurs. We hope that these will provide a refreshing new approach to the industry and will be seen as the industry benchmark for many years to come."

Next year the World's Best Wine Lists award ceremony will take place at a glamorous London location.
