ICONIC AUSTRALIAN ARTIST DESIGNS - INCLUDING FLORENCE BROADHURST - TO FEATURE AT VIVID SYDNEY 2023
Sydney, 2 May 2023 | The Australian Museum of Design is thrilled to announce that some of Australia’s most iconic design artists, including Florence Broadhurst, will feature at Vivid Sydney 2023.
The collation of designs and patterns is spearheaded by the legendary Florence Broadhurst and includes several other designers and collections. Each will feature in an eight-minute animation titled Inside Out which will be displayed on the façade of the Customs House Building in Circular Quay from 26 May to 17 June.
This installation will see Florence Broadhurst’s infamous patterns and designs transform the heritage-listed Customs House into a world of florals, shapes and colours. Other prolific artists from the 1960s, 70s and 80s included in the display are Carla Zampatti, and Noel Lyons and a special feature from Collette Dinnigan.
Margaux Everett, CEO and Founder of the Australian Museum of Design which launched in August 2022, is the custodian of more than 7,500 original hand drawn designs by Australian artists from the 60s to the 80s. It is the largest known, post-war collection of its kind and is a prized record of Australian design history for future generations.
“Our goal is to preserve the designs and acknowledge the artists in a respectful way before they are lost forever,” said Ms Everett. “The designs will be able to be viewed by students, designers, businesses and art lovers across the world in a way never previously imagined.”
The drawings and artworks from the Vivid Sydney exhibition have also been developed into artworks which are available for purchase from https://www.australianmuseumdesign.com.au
