BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER MEETS SCOTT PILGRIM - ONLY GAYER!
SHE KILLS MONSTERS is a hilarious, twisted and camp ‘90s rock ‘n’ roll DnD adventure, brought to you by the team behind the 2025 hit STRANGER SINGS! THE PARODY MUSICAL, premiering at Sydney’s Eternity Playhouse this September 23 – 26 for the Sydney Fringe Festival.
What happens when a grieving older sister discovers her ‘loser’ younger sister was secretly a Level 20 Paladin aka Dungeons & Dragons legend?
Qui Nguyen’s famous coming-of-age comedy, fuelled by a ‘90s live grunge-rock band, is a theatrical collision of Dungeons & Dragons monsters, queer teenage fantasy, ‘90s pop culture and a story with a surprising amount of heart.
At the centre of the story is a sixteen-year-old geek (and secretly gay) Tilly, whose unexpected death inspires older sister Agnes to discover her D&D campaign, and make the decision to learn how to play.
What begins as an awkward attempt to understand her sister becomes an extraordinary journey into a fantasy world where the geeks can be heroes, the demon queens are leather-clad bad asses and Tilly’s secret life – especially her romantic relationships with girls - is finally revealed.
Beneath the swords, monsters and outrageous comedy is a surprisingly moving question: How well do you really know the people you love?
The show also drops Gen Z into the middle of the 1990s and turns up the retro pop culture to eleven– but underneath the music and the comedy is a beautifully told story about identity and outsiders finding their way and learning about love and sex in a secret, safe world they’ve created, continuing Epiphany’s love of nostalgic pop culture, comedy and rock ‘n’ roll while platforming young performers and relevant stories to reach new audiences.
Rated PG-13, She Kills Monsters promises an explosive night of fantasy, comedy, live rock and ‘90s nostalgia.
And yes, there will be monsters. Lots of monsters.
