Join us for the launch of Parallax: Architectural Visualisation Now
Parallax maps the discipline at a moment of radical transformation, surveying 14 world-leading practices to reveal how architectural visualisation has become the primary medium through which we imagine, argue for, and contest the future of our cities.
Architectural visualisation was once a downstream service — a way to show clients what a building would look like. It is now something far more consequential: the lingua franca of urban imagination, shaping public discourse, policy, and collective aspiration. Parallax takes this shift seriously.
Authors Paul Loh and Andrei Dolnikov draw on decades of combined teaching and practice to interrogate how leading visualisation studios craft and deploy their images, how they navigate the boundaries between architecture, film, digital art, and experiential design, and what the rise of AI-driven image generation means for the field's future.
Richly illustrated and intellectually grounded, this is essential reading for anyone engaged with the evolving culture of architectural representation.
Paul Loh is an architect, researcher, and educator at Bond University, where his work spans computational design, digital fabrication, and the intersection of architectural practice and emerging technology, with international exhibitions across Asia, Europe, and North America.
Andrei Dolnikov is a designer and academic whose practice operates across architectural visualisation, interactive media, and spatial experience, bringing firsthand knowledge of the craft, culture, and business of architectural image-making.
Together, they have spent years teaching visualisation practice and developing the research that underpins Parallax.
