Walk Against Family Violence

Information

Walk Against Family Violence - Sydney CBD

Take action by joining Sydney's inaugural Walk Against Family Violence on 2 December to help create a future where we are all safe, equal and respected.

We will start behind Town Hall, and walk towards Hyde Park North. Come to hear speakers and meet people of all genders from your community who stand with victim-survivors.

25 November - 10 December is a global campaign called the 16 Days of Activism, starting on the United Nations International Elimination of Violence Towards Women Day, and ending on Human Rights Day.

In Australia, this walk first started in Melbourne CBD in 2009, drawing over 3000 people last year. It is organised by Respect Victoria - a dedicated government organisation for the prevention of family violence and violence against women in Victoria. Respect Sydney was influenced by this organisation, but is not affiliated with the Victorian government.

By joining our Walk in Sydney CBD, you stand in solidarity with victim survivors and advocates by taking action to prevent family violence and violence against women.

Wear orange if you can, a colour which indicates a brighter future for all - and don't forget your banners, sunscreen and water! People of all genders are welcome. Bring your workmates, friends, family and dogs!

If you can’t get to the event, you can organise your own walk, or share your thoughts from home on social media. We need all of Sydney's support in these challenging times.
