Entries Open for Smart Movie Makers with Smart Phones

Australia’s - and the world’s – Smartfone Flick Fest (SF3) enters its 9th big year… and entries are now open for the 2023 festival – set to be the most spectacular yet!

The Aussie-born, hugely successful, international film fest - for movies entirely filmed on a smart phone or tablet - is open to filmmakers of all ages.

With finals scheduled for the weekend 18-19 November at the Actors Centre Australia – plus online –the big fest for smart filmmakers with small tech and BIG imaginations again boasts a slew of awards on offer... and with rich prizes!

$50,000 worth of prizes and 35 awards across 5 categories is the glittering treasure awaiting film-makers of all ages from across Australia and all over the world.

There’s the SF3 Gala Awards open category (for short  films up to 20 minutes); SF3 Kids (up to 10 minutes) for young people 16 and under; SF3 Mini (up to 3 minutes) with a theme this year of ‘Up’; SF3 feature films (at least 40 minutes long); and SF360 (up to 20 minutes) for films in virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR) and 360 degree genres.

Awards include Best Film, Best Director, Best Cinematography, Best Score, Best Kids Film etc PLUS Best Adaptation and the First Nations award – worth $7000 alone!

As always, the lead-up to the festival includes many workshops and masterclasses – with the first of these set to be announced next month.

Among the more than 20 sponsors and prize partners are Luma Touch, Filmic Pro (major sponsors) Accounting Heart, Chicken & Chips Casting, NIDA, Create NSW and Film NSW.

The 2023 judging panel features a galaxy of stage, screen and celluloid stars from across Australia, America and Africa.

These include Louis Nowra, Serhat Caradee, Talin Agon, Pieter de Vries, Karishma Mathur, Oladipo O’Fresh and many more.

SF3 Ambassadors for 2023 are Phillip Noyce, Kerry Armstrong, Kriv Stenders, plus Nicole da Silva, Christopher Stollery, Anthony Kierann, Emily Prior and, newest additions, SMH film critic Garry Maddox and celebrate Venezualan actor/director Luis Fernandez – currently working in LA.

Last year’s festival attracted over 300 films from across the globe – more than half of them from local Australian urban, regional and rural filmmakers.

Festival Co-Founders Ali Crew and Angela Blake (Festival Director) expect even more this year!
