Bachelor Girl: Waiting for the Day REDUX | A Review by Ellie Seymour

Bachelor Girl wows Sydney with powerhouse vocals, timeless hits and musical chemistry at the Factory Theatre on the Waiting for the Day REDUX tour.

Bachelor Girl brought their Waiting for the Day REDUX Tour to Sydney’s Factory Theatre on 18 October 2026, delivering an energetic celebration of their enduring Australian pop catalogue. Tania Doko and James Roche, backed by a talented band, opened with a blast of rock and roll before moving through heartfelt ballads, funk and punchy pop. Their seamless harmonies and natural onstage chemistry reflected more than 25 years of making music together, while Doko’s phenomenal voice and infectious stage presence kept the performance engaging. The standout crowd moment came with Buses and Trains, as the audience rose to sing the iconic hit in unison. Balancing nostalgia with musical variety, Bachelor Girl demonstrated why their songs continue to connect with listeners across generations. It was an entertaining night that celebrated both the legacy of Waiting for the Day and the enduring appeal of a much-loved Australian duo.

A Blast of Rock and Roll

Some concerts remind you why live music is such a wonderful thing, and Bachelor Girl’s performance at Marrickville’s Factory Theatre on Sunday, 18 October, was one of them.

Tania Doko and James Roche, backed by a talented band, wasted no time getting the party started with a high-energy blast of rock and roll. From there, the show moved through heartfelt ballads, funk and bright, punchy pop, revealing the breadth of their musical repertoire.

Touring in celebration of their landmark debut album, Waiting for the Day, Bachelor Girl offered more than a nostalgic trip down memory lane. The changing styles kept the performance fresh, while the live band brought extra drive and colour to the songs.

Tania Doko and James Roche: A Natural Connection

Watching Doko and Roche perform together was a highlight of the evening. Their chemistry, harmonies and synchronicity were second to none, reflecting a creative partnership developed over more than 25 years.

Doko’s voice was phenomenal — powerful, expressive and assured. Her groove and infectious stage energy made her a joy to watch, adding another dimension to the music beyond the vocals themselves.

Roche complemented her beautifully, and their effortless interaction demonstrated how well they understand each other musically. Rather than simply revisiting familiar material, they delivered it with the confidence and ease of performers who remain connected to their songs.

When the Whole Room Sings

Of course, no Bachelor Girl concert would feel complete without Buses and Trains.

The response at the Factory Theatre was wonderful. As the familiar hit rang out, the audience rose to its feet, singing along in loud unison. It was one of those special live music moments when the distinction between performer and audience disappears and everyone becomes part of the experience.

Released on their double platinum debut album, Waiting for the Day, the song won APRA Song of the Year and became one of Australia’s most recognisable pop classics.

The audience reaction was a reminder of just how deeply a song can embed itself in our collective musical memory. While Buses and Trains was a definite highlight, the variety throughout the evening showed there is much more to Bachelor Girl than one iconic hit.

The Verdict: A Brilliant Night Out

Bachelor Girl’s Factory Theatre performance delivered an engaging mix of rock, pop, funk and ballads, anchored by Doko’s outstanding vocals and the duo’s natural musical connection.

What stood out was the balance between familiarity and variety. The songs brought back memories, but the energy of the live arrangements kept the show firmly in the present. The band added depth to the performance, while the audience’s enthusiastic singalong to Buses and Trains provided a memorable high point.

More than 25 years after Waiting for the Day first captured the nation’s attention, Bachelor Girl continue to prove that great songs can stand the test of time.

Absolutely fantastic show — and one I would happily see again.
