Hendrick’s Gin kicks off celebrations for World Cucumber Day

Hendrick’s Gin kicks off celebrations for World Cucumber Day by encouraging Australians to join mass cucumber planting.

The annual celebration that pays homage to one of the world’s most unsung heroes – the humble cucumber – is almost upon us. World Cucumber Day will be celebrated on 14 June and Hendrick’s Gin is commemorating the occasion by creating a slew of new and quirky cucumber cocktails and asking the nation to cultivate their own cucumbers.

To kick off the celebration of the unique fruit, Hendricks’s Gin is supplying 3,000 packs of cucumber seeds to fans with curious minds and a penchant for greenery. The initiative is aimed at encouraging the nation to paint the town a shade of virescent green by planting their own ‘cuke’ and cultivating the fruit that is distinctive garnish for Hendricks’s.

To further inspire the nation to embrace the cucumber, Hendrick’s Gin has partnered with bars across Sydney and Melbourne to launch a cocktail delivery service, which includes a selection of specially curated ‘cuke-tails’ starting from $10, to give the cucumber the attention it deserves. Each delectably, delightful cocktail will be available for delivery and will be accompanied with a Hendrick’s Gin “Cultivate Your Cuke’ growing kit.

Sydneysiders will be able to enjoy hand-crafted cocktail delights, such as the Cucumber & Lavender Collins from vibrant Chippendale venue, Gin Lane.

Those living closer to the CBD can sip on an experimental creation from Time Out's 2020 Bar of the Year, PS40, titled Cucumber Express. Surry Hills hot spot, Low 302, will be serving up a delightful concoction, titled Pepino Manzana.

Heading out to the eastern suburbs, locals will love the Lo and Behold from famous Bondi Beach hotspot, Hotel Ravesis, as well as the cucumber concoction Unusual Vesper from Rushcutters Bay’s truly unique venue, Bar M.

Turning to Melbourne, Melburnians can get their hands on Bubble T&T from Fitzroy’s finest, Black Pearl Bar. Heading North? Brunswick East favourite, Atticus Finch will be serving up More Tea, Vicar? whilst down south, The Antique Bar will be tantalising tastebuds with not one but two delights, titled Summer Garden and The Eastside.

For curious cucumber fans living elsewhere, the celebration of the humble green doesn’t stop at cocktail delivery. Throughout June, Hendrick’s has joined forces with online bottle shop, Boozebud, to offer ‘Cultivate Your Cuke’ growing kits with every purchase of a Hendrick’s Gin product.

To help the nation in their quest to grow the most delectable cucumbers, Hendrick’s has partnered with leading Australian cucumber expert, David Sivyer. Throughout the campaign, David will be supplying important tips and tricks to help Aussies grow a healthy, girthy cuke worthy of garnishing their Hendrick’s Gin & Tonic.

David said: “It’s time for the avocado to move over; there’s another green fruit that deserves recognition. The cucumber is extremely versatile and has too long been in the shadows so I’m glad that Hendrick’s is enabling it to have its rightful time to shine in the spotlight. They’re easy to grow – so there’s no reason not to get involved - and make your Hendricks and tonics even better once they’re ready!”

The ‘Cultivate Your Cuke’ campaign will culminate on World Cucumber Day (14 June), with Australians encouraged to participate in a mass planting of cucumbers across the nation – and raise a toast to the ‘cuke’ with a Hendrick's Gin and Tonic.
