Sunset Harbour Cruise | Review By Eleanor Edwards

A sunset harbour cruise in Sydney becomes an unforgettable evening of live jazz, roaming canapés and harbour views in this guest review by Eleanor Edwards.

A Golden Beginning On Sydney Harbour

Imagine this… you’re cruising the Sydney Harbour listening to a live jazz band perform on board as the sun sets in the distance. Sounds like a dream, right? Well, this week I experienced this as a reality.

Stepping on board I was treated to a complementary glass of prosecco, as I settled into an armchair on the lower deck ready for a night of beautiful music. Through the window I watched the sunset, framing the iconic Harbour Bridge in a beautiful orange.

Live Jazz Setting The Mood

Soon, JC Stylles and his band entered the stage, heading for their instruments. We were treated to a blend of drums, double bass, piano and guitar. As a fan of Jazz, I had so much fun listening to such great players live, and feeling the music move through my body.

One of my favourite pieces the band played was ‘Una Mass’, which means ‘One More Time’ in Spanish. This song was upbeat and deliciously addictive, from the inclusion of cowbell, to the bright plucking and cheeky slide on the guitar adding further interest to the sound. All the players looked like they were in the moment and genuinely enjoyed playing the music, which made the experience even more fun as an audience member.

Dinner On Board With Roaming Canapés

This cruise included both dinner and a show, as we were served roaming canapés throughout the evening. From dumplings, to pan-seared lamb cutlet, the food was flavourful and satisfying, further heightening the experience. I had a little boogie in my chair while I ate, as I listened to the pianist make the piano talk with their agile fingers, and witnessed JC in his element as he played his guitar.

Each instrument added texture and warmth to the sound as they played an enjoyable selection of jazz tunes.

A Special Guest Joins The Cruise

We were even treated to a special guest. Jazz and soul vocalist Zoe K entered the stage sporting a hot pink power suit, zebra striped heels, and her flirtatious personality.

Her rich voice played with the melodies, as she sang with passion and strength. She expressed her cheeky side through both speech and song choice, singing ‘Don’t Touch My Leg’, which contains the suggestive lyrics “If you feel my thigh, you gonna go too high”.

Her expertise in jazz singing was evident in every line she sang, and I enjoyed watching how she interacted with the band.

Dancing Into The Night

The night finished off on a high, as the band upped the vibe and invited the audience to dance. I excitedly made my way onto the dance floor to boogie with everyone for the final two songs as we floated back into the dock.

The sunset jazz cruise made for such a special evening, and a memory I will cherish. I would highly recommend this experience for a celebration, a date with a loved one or simply a singular and memorable night.
