The Big Bake Review

Ready! Steady! Bake!

Get your apron and on your wooden spoons out: it’s all about Booze and Bake classes, which has kicked off in the heart of sparkly Sydney city at The Met.

A two hour baking extravaganza, you get to take home your very own, personalized pastry and muffin delight, drink the night away sipping cocktails, while playing games featuring marshmallows (won’t give anything else away here!), charades and ….an oreo.

Whether there for a family bonding session, date night, work night or with a friend, 16 of us competed for the winning cocktail under a canapé of rainbow coloured decorations and flamboyant outfits, not to mention a sea of lollies.

I decided to do the ‘family bonding’ experience and took my niece, who after realizing she was surrounded by lollies and cakes thought she’d made it to heaven. No surprise then that she competed in the literally ‘stuffing your face’ with marshmallows game.

The delightful, energetic hostess of the mostest lead us through what to expect …and it was all whisks ablazing: cake mix, pots, pans, chocolates and laughs flying everywhere. Every team had to have a name encrypted with icing on chocolate: we called ourselves Pink Eye, and every team had to choose what they were going to make: we chose vanilla muffins, with vanilla topping drowning in candy.

Feeling like we were on the set of Masterchef, purely because there was a time limit, and our stations were so modern, colourful and fun, an expert chef was also on call should things get awry. (We needed the pastry chef once, which was minus a team point, but hey, better to do it properly and guess if our measurements in mls were the same as gms).

By the end, we were not only stuffed with marshmallows, bubbly and cake mix, but our creations were ready for us to take home. My niece not only Tik Tok’d the night away about The Big Bake, but insisted she take all the six cupcakes home for school the next day.

Now all her friends want to go to.

The ideal date night, group activity or corporate challenge, it is a must-do event!

Entry costs just $50 per person and includes all ingredients for your baked goods, a glass of bubbly, judging & tips and amazing prizes for the winners!

Until April 30th.

Held at: Met Centre, Margaret Street Sydney. 14 shows a week!
