Nadya's 101 Candles Orkestra featuring Ilija Ampevski & Leonid Beshlei

Information

“Tavern at the End of the Euroverse”

“.. shards of sound were flying in multiple directions
at armour-piercing speed amid mad, fluttering trills.”

“A contralto of power, range and conviction..”
4.5 Stars John Shand SMH/The Age

Step through the doors of the Tavern at the End of the Euroverse and into a world of wild Balkan rhythms, smoky cabaret, aching romance and glorious musical abandon.

At the centre of it all is Nadya, with the sort of voice that would still light up a room if the power failed — a contralto of extraordinary power, range and conviction, capable of moving from a whisper to a roar in the space of a song.

Behind her, the 101 Candles Orkestra creates a propulsive, thick-pile sound: brass, strings, percussion and accordion surging together before suddenly dropping away to something intimate and fragile — a late-night La Vie en rose — then exploding again into thrilling solos and irresistible dance rhythms.

For this very special performance, Nadya is joined by Ilija Ampevski, Leonid Beshlei and an ensemble of world-class musicians, each a master of their craft.

Drawing on the music of the Balkans, Romani traditions, Eastern European folk, French chanson and old-world cabaret, this is less a concert than a journey into another time and place.

One moment you’re sitting in Sydney. Next, you’re crammed into a candlelit tavern in a village somewhere deep in the Balkans, the rakija is flowing, the band is getting faster and nobody is quite sure what century it is anymore.

Wild, romantic, virtuosic and completely one of a kind — welcome to the Tavern at the End of the Euroverse.

The night Including a tribute saluting Tony Gatlif with special renditions of Tutti Frutti from Gadziedillo and Naci en Alamo from Benho.

All gypsy musicians and lovers of gypsy music, culture and films are invited along

Line up includes :
Ilija Ampevski clarinet , Stephen Lalor mandolin, John Maddox piano . Nadya Golski vocals Sam Golding trumpet, Dario Moconja bass , John Hibbard trombone, Zoran Jovanovic drums and Cazim Kevric on guitar.
