ROMANCERO GITANO WITH SPANISH, LATIN AMERICAN AND AUSTRALIAN VOICES
A preview of our 2026 Portugal & Spain Tour
We are thrilled to present a concert showcasing choral works that will form part of our performance tour to Portugal and Spain in October 2026.
At the heart of the program is Romancero Gitano by Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco, an evocative setting of powerful lyrics by renowned 20th century Spanish poet and playwright Federico García Lorca. It portrays the everyday lives, passions, and struggles of people in Spain, and is brought vividly to life by the choir and the virtuosic guitar playing of Ermanno Brignolo.
The Program
This varied program features choral works inspired by Spanish, Sephardic, and Latin American traditions.
• Balada de la Luna, Luna — Modesta Bor (Venezuela) • Ave Maris Stella — Eva Ugalde (Spain) • Canciones Sefardíes — Joaquín Rodrigo (Spain, commemorating the 125th anniversary of his birth)
Australian Composers
The program also features works by leading Australian composers, reflecting Coro Austral’s commitment to contemporary choral artistry.
• Clare Maclean
• Paul Stanhope
• Joseph Twist
• David Basden
